Your Stag Day in Newcastle

Here at Freedom we reckon no stag weekend is complete without beer, sport and girls. So we’ve done our homework for you and put together some great stag ideas for your unforgettable stag weekend that will tick all the boxes.

Newcastle Stags love Sport

St James Park

As we are in Newcastle we have to start with football and where better to visit than St James Park, home of Newcastle United. Formed in 1892 “The Magpies” are famous for their black and white striped shirts. Life’s never dull watching Newcastle United and now the Toon Army are back in full song with their explosive football team propelling p the premiership. Pre or post match you can check out top goal scoring at Shearers Bar.

Newcastle Falcons

If you prefer odd shaped balls then head for the home of Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park Stadium – whose most famous player is the legendary Johnny Wilkinson. Dating back to 1877 the Falcons are a leading force in UK rugby.

Newcastle Stag Friendly Bars

If watching rather than participating is more your idea of good fun then Newcastle has plenty of opportunities for you to play to your strengths on your stag weekend Newcastle.

Bar 52 Sports bar has comfy seating areas and loads of screens to keep you up to date on all the latest scores on your Newcastle stag weekend. Other great location for chilling out and watching sport is the Shark Club Gastro Bar in Sandman Signature Hotel, City Vaults cellar sports bar with big screens, resident DJs, a dance floor and outside seating. The Percy Arms is a traditional pub with TV screens for live sport, a pool table and DJs playing rock and retro sounds. Shearer's Sports Bar and Lounge is a great place to grab a famous Newcastle brown ale and watch a match on any one of the 10 giant plasma screens.

Travel around Newcastle

Newcastle is very easy to navigate as the Metro (one of the UK’s most efficient transport systems) has stations dotted all over the Newcastle and Gateshead area. They are cheap, quick and safe and used by everybody throughout the day. The city itself is so compact that you may find you want to walk everywhere anyway.

7 bridges in all link Newcastle and Gateshead so don’t be surprised if you keep popping back and forth over the various bridges during your Newcastle stag parties to visit the various attractions. The Baltic is a former grain house and now houses contemporary art exhibitions. It is the largest gallery of its kind and as it has no permanent exhibition you are guaranteed a unique experience each time you visit. The whole idea is that you relax, learn, have fun and discover some new ideas. Oh, and the best bit is that admission is free and while you are there you can chill out even more as there is a café bar and a rooftop restaurant with great views of the city.

Gateshead Event Venues

The Sage, again on the Gateshead side of the River Tyne is also a venue worth a visit on your stag weekend Newcastle. Designed by the award winning Norman Foster (who incidentally designed Wembley Stadium), it fills a gap on the map for music venues in the North of England. Home to the Northern Sinfonia (that’s violins and cellos to you and me!) you are likely to catch them rehearsing if you wander in during the day. The great thing about the Sage is you don’t have to be attending a concert or performance to use the facilities. You could organise a lunch in the Sir Michael Straker Café or try the Brasserie, or any one of the 5 bars and soak up the atmosphere while you admire the views. Just another idea to consider for your stag night Newcastle with the lads.

The Sage is also home to Summertyne, a festival now in its 3rd year and growing. Late night Latin Dance Party and Caribbean sounds with acoustic performances combine to make a party to remember. Worth a look on your stag weekend Newcastle because some of the events are free.

Don’t let all this culture go to your head though guys – remember you are here to celebrate the end of an era but it’s fair to say that the emergence of the Baltic and the Sage have almost turned Newcastle from the party capital to the arty capital of the north!!

Newcastle Horse Racing

How about a trip to the Races during your Newcastle stag weekends? On the site of the original Blaydon Races is High Gosforth Park, Newcastle Racecourse the home to the Northumberland Plate. On race day there are free buses from Newcastle city centre or a taxi takes about 20 minutes. So remember to pack your best suits boys and prepare to have a flutter on your Newcastle stag parties.

Newcastle Activity Experts

Whatever you decide to do on your Newcastle stag weekends you won’t be disappointed – even if you just chill out in one of the many parks or hang out around the quayside and stop off at a few bars you are guaranteed good company and lots of laughs. So what are you waiting for – get in touch with us here at Freedom and let us put together an unforgettable weekend to remember your stag party Newcastle.
