Following the IRA bomb in 1996 this city underwent a much-needed redevelopment programme. You can now find stylish bars and celebrity hangouts at Deansgate Locks, or wander in The Printworks and enjoy a distinctly cosmopolitan atmosphere, from Hard Rock to Tiger Tiger.

After doing such a good job with the 2002 Commonwealth Games, tourists have been flocking to the city – hen parties Manchester among them!
