So what can you expect on your Newcastle hen night? For a start off you won’t be needing your coat!! Geordies are famed for being the last people in Britain to put on a coat before going out in winter and the first to take them off in spring, and with the warm welcome you’ll be getting, that will keep you nice and toasty anyway!!

As we have already mentioned Newcastle has certainly had its hard hits in the past with closure of the mines and the end of the shipbuilding business – but just like true grit northerners that they are, they haven’t sat back and felt sorry for themselves – oh no – Newcastle has risen like a phoenix from the fire and is now one of the top places to visit for everything cultural and down right good fun!!! So good, in fact, that in 2006 the Rough Guide named it top spot for arts and nightlife.

So for a classy venue for drinks at the start of the night try Revolution on Collingwood Street near the Station. A luxury conversion of a former bank with 30 foot high ornate ceilings and original artwork, it’s certainly a memorable venue for your hen night Newcastle. With food served all day, DJ’s mixing it up with hip hop and house 7 days a week, over 90 different vodkas to choose from and booths that you can pre-book we reckon you may never want to leave!!

Before you hit the clubs and pubs big style we reckon you should line your stomach first! Newcastle has some of the most varied eating establishments in the North and everyone’s tastes are well catered for. Vegetarians will be pleased as punch with The Sky Apple, Heaton Road. It’s an easy-going establishment with a BYO (Bring Your Own) policy with a nominal corkage fee. Great news if you want to celebrate with the champagne you brought with you!

For Italian food lovers try Secco Ristorante, Pilgrim Street. Run by 3 sibling Italians it celebrates the fusion of local fare with classic Italian staple food and received the Hardens Remy Award in 2005 for the best new opening. Pretty good when you consider that it is one of only ten to win the award in the UK.

If you and the girls are in need of a touch of class and fancy À La Carte on your hen party in Newcastle then look no further than Fisherman’s Lodge, Jesmond Dene. Former house of Lord William Armstrong it provides a magnificent venue to sample modern British cuisine set in leafy woodlands.

For a lively, welcoming environment you can’t go wrong with Big Mussel, Leazes Park Road. Don’t be put off by the name as its not all seafood, they do other fabulous Belgian dishes including sausages, waffles and beers. Also on Leazes Park Road is Arami, a very classy Bangladeshi Restaurant. Here they excel in food from the Sylhet region where the emphasis is on garlic, ginger, coriander, cinnamon and chilli. You can actually pre-order your food online if you have a table reservation – great if you are in a rush to get to a club on your hen nights in Newcastle.

Or you and the girls could just head to The Gate where there are loads of places to eat. Spice Cube won Best Indian Restaurant – North East Awards in 2007 – it’s ultra cool and adds a vibrant modern twist to Indian cuisine.

Then, of course, there is always Chinatown. The Chinese Arch on Gallowgate defines the start of this area, which is close to Newcastle United’s home ground. You may struggle to choose a venue here as there are so many – we recommend Hana Hana and Fujiyama both serving Japanese food. The chefs put on crowd-pleasing displays of traditional Japanese cooking so you are entertained while you eat.

Further oriental delights in Chinatown include King Neptune, which has appeared in the Egon Ronay Guides and also operates a BYO policy and specialises in Peking style seafood. Other Chinese restaurants include Treasure, which fits the bill as it is open until 2 a.m so it’s a perfect spot to go after clubbing, and finally there is Landmark located very near to the Chinese Arch.

Although we have only listed one vegetarian restaurant it is fair to say that all the restaurants mentioned serve vegetarian options so you won’t go hungry on your Newcastle hen nights.

Pubs and clubs are aplenty in Newcastle so after choosing where to dine your next most difficult job will be sussing out which bars to head for. We, at FREEDOM, feel we can help you out with this – it’s been a hard job but someone had to do it – so read on to find out our top nightlife choices for you to experience on your hen party in Newcastle.

The Gate, Newgate Street, is a great place to go as its boasts 19 venues to eat, drink and socialise all under one roof. If you fancy a little flutter Aspers Casino would love you to call in. With a choice of eating venues, live entertainment everyday, 3 floors of gaming tables and slots and 28 screens to watch sporting events it’s a whole night out in one place.

The stylish club Tiger Tiger also at The Gate has 4 themed bars and a main dance club. It appears to have everything covered with a restaurant serving food from 5pm to late and music from 70’s, 80’s and 90’s mixed with the hottest tunes around so you and the girls are guaranteed to dance the night away here on your hen weekend in Newcastle.

It’s an absolute must to visit the Bigg Market on your hen night Newcastle it’s just THE best area to rub shoulders with Geordies. Blu Bambu is a colourful club on 3 floors and attracts a great clientele (probably because they have a strict door policy). Excellent for a fun night out with pop, R & B and dance music. Oh, and they mix a mean cocktail too!

Barluga, Grey Street, near the Theatre Royal, is a classy place to take the girls. Beautiful food served in a friendly atmosphere where you can listen to live music, have a private party on the mezzanine floor or just unwind with drinks on the terrace.

But a trip to Newcastle wouldn’t be complete without a bit of time spent on the Tuxedo Princess. Moored at the Quayside it’s an iconic image of Newcastle just as much as the Tyne Bridge, Newcy Brown and the landmark Angel of the North. Where else can you dance the night away on a revolving dancefloor?!

The Stage Door, Stowell Street, formerly a banana warehouse, is one of the oldest clubs in Newcastle and in its time was a favourite of the gangsters in the 1960’s. Now re-launched as the Cosmic Ballroom on 2 floors with slinky décor and a legendary Saturday night called “Nice” it’s definitely a cut above the rest.

At Baja Beach Club, Pipewell Gate Street on the Gateshead side of the river, if you pre-book your Newcastle hen parties you stand a chance of free champagne – we never say no to that!! Clearly a beach themed club playing 60’s through to present day it’s a hit with the younger football stars.

Nothing could beat the Cooperage for a night out though, with a fantastic location on the Quayside, a great selection of beers and club Xcalibur upstairs it’s always a favourite with the dancers.

Or, how about having a good old belly laugh on your hen night Newcastle? Hyenas, Leazes Lane is Newcastle’s answer to a hilarious night out and features masses of up and coming comedic talent and as it serves simple food it’s a really easy night out with the girls.

Another rip roaring night out is a trip to Liquid & Envy Nightclub, New Bridge Street. Winner of Best Bar None 2008 Bronze Award for Club Category it regularly hosts hip hop and R n B nights with both resident and guest DJs and with 360º projection screens and a super stylish white background it’s a great place to be seen. It’s also home to the Adonis Cabaret – say no more girls - but it’s time for the lads to get their kit off!!!

The Carling Academy, Westgate Road, which opened in 2005 has been hailed as a great success. Regularly hosting club nights with guest DJs and groups such as Goldfrapp, Athlete and Supergrass. City Hall in the centre of Newcastle is more likely to stage 80’s bands such as Level 42 and China Crisis as well as comedians like Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr. The Metro Radio Arena located on the banks of the River Tyne and just 10 minutes from Central Station has seen performances from Kylie, Paul Weller, James Blunt and is home to the ice hockey team- Vipers and basketball team – Eagles.

It goes with out saying that, as Newcastle is so compact, everywhere is within staggering distance and as a group of hens you can pretty much dress as daringly as you want to and still get into most clubs. All clubs and pubs have happy hour and drink promotions so your only problem will be pacing yourself so you and the girls can actually remember your hen nights in Newcastle!

Geordies are also down to earth, smashing people and nowhere else in the UK will you be treated so well.
