However it was doing pretty good on its own steam prior to this. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal had been opened in 1770.

So things were pretty good, business boomed, factories thrived, profits were made. The downside: a little overcrowding, poor sewage…. urgh, enough, you get the picture.

It was during the first half of the 20th century that saw Leeds take its tumble, those once prosperous mills and factories didn’t have the demand and were left idle and derelict.

Oh dear, don’t despair it all comes good. Thankfully these once forgotten industrial areas inspired local architects to redevelop as housing, leisure and commercial properties.

It’s quite a ‘phoenix rising from the ashes’ tale!
