At the end of the 18th century “the taking of sea air” became the very height of fashion. It was Sir George Tapps-Gervis who decided to create a seaside town at Bournemouth and so in 1851 it was a little village with a population of 695.

Once the railways found their way out Bournemouth the numbers of visitors grew and the town flourished.

It is Bournemouth’s central location on the south east coast that makes it ideal for exploring the surrounding stunning countryside, from the craggy rock formation of the Purbacks to the inland picturesque Dorset villages. You can discover for yourself why Thomas Hardy was so inspired.
