In fact it’s the country’s second largest city and third most visited by overseas guests, so obviously that’s a good indictment that this city does have plenty to offer.
You’ll find a whole host of splendid architecture to dispel the concrete jungle label that Birmingham seemed to be have been given. The Town Hall, built in the 1830’s is a magnificent example of Victorian architecture, whilst the Council House was built in the Renaissance style in the 1870’s, its clock is known locally as “Big Brum”.

Birmingham means home (ham) of the people (ing) of the tribal leader Birm or Beorma. You will find the people of Birmingham very welcoming and friendly, don’t be disturbed if they call you ‘duck’ on your Birmingham hen parties, its just the local term of affection.
What hen weekend Birmingham is complete without a little celeb spotting? Famous sons and daughters of this city include the outrageous Ozzy Osbourne, the hilarious Julie Walters, the gorgeous Cat Deeley and the romantic Barbara Cartland.

Whilst we’re dolling out knowledge maybe now would be a good time for a quick history lesson on Birmingham. Don’t panic we do mean quick. Birmingham and other towns such as Solihull and Wolverhampton are known collectively as ‘The Black Country’.
By the late 19th century this area had become one of the most intensely industrialised in the nation. The City’s reputation was forged as a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution.
This city is steeped in history and was mentioned in the Domesday book, records show that Birmingham was producing knives and tools as early as 1538 and has earned the title ‘city of a thousand trades’.
But enough of all that, you’re wanting to party on your hen weekend Birmingham. What you really need to know is information like head off to the Gas Street Basin. You’ll find that Birmingham’s canal waterways have been restored, you can while away a couple of hours on a boat trip or just watch the world go by at the waterside bars and restaurants.
